Ready to put your game to the test?

Picture this:

You’re standing on the hard-court.

Racquet in hand.

You’ve prepared diligently for this moment. The moment as your opponent strikes the ball high overhead. A sharp pop and a whizzing sound as the ball narrowly clears the top of the net, bouncing hard off the floor 8 feet to your left.

And it's game on.

Different people play tennis for different reasons. The exercise, the camaraderie, the competitive juices that flow once a match begins - all of these elements are enhanced in a tournament atmosphere.

For people who haven’t entered a tennis tournament before, you're in for a whole new level of competition and fun.

The NSWC Summer Smash is just around the corner. Whether you’re a member or a public guest who’ve competed in this tournament before, you know that you’re in for an experience you won’t soon forget.

Here are five reasons to register for this year’s event, happening August 10th - 16th.

1. Two Match Guarantee

This one has pros and cons. First, it’s nice to know that you won’t play one match, lose, and then be done. There’s built-in security for your fee.

However, only having two guaranteed matches means there's an element of pressure that comes from the uncertainty.

Two matches is just enough to feel the pressure to win. After two matches you’ll start feeling more comfortable with your game and you won’t want the tournament to end.

2. Open to All Levels

Luckily, the Summer Smash is open to all levels of ability. You’re free to choose where you think you fit the best.

Combined with the two match minimum, you’re guaranteed to have a challenging, worthwhile experience.

3. Competition

With the ability to choose your division, however, comes the reality that others will choose your division as well (obviously). The draw for the NSWC Summer Smash is huge.

What does this mean for you?

Well, it means that difficult matches await. Playing against players of a similar skill set ensures a competitive environment whether you like it or not.

4. Social Atmosphere Every Day at the Tiki Deck

Whether you’re a skier, a mountain biker or any other sort of extreme sport enthusiast, you know that half the fun of putting your skills to the test is the reward that comes afterward.

Just like sitting down in front of a fire with stiff drink after a day on the slopes, the Summer Smash is synonymous with the North Shore Winter Club Tiki Deck.

And even though you might have had some choice words for your opponent or the referee a few hours before, the sun and the mood of the Tiki Deck will quickly smooth over any turbulence you might have felt that day.

5. Dinner & Dance Wrap-Up

This is one tennis tournament that’s about so much more than just tennis.

The Summer Smash is a celebration of the game, the players and the spirit of competition that lives in all of us. The dinner and dance wrap-up has brings people together at the end of the event - there’s always plenty of good-natured ribbing and the occasional request for a second opinion.

The wrap-up puts everyone back on even terms. Maybe because everyone is just relieved the games are over and the pressure is off, or maybe because it’s one of the truly perfect opportunities to visit and share a drink with a friendly, supportive community.

So, are you ready to put your game to the test? The deadline to register for this year’s Summer Smash is August 4th at 11:59pm.
