Swim Lessons
Swimming lessons run all summer long in our beautiful outdoor pool, located in the courtyard of the Club surrounded by grass areas and our Tiki Bar. We offer a variety of Swim Programs, Lifesaving Courses, Private Lessons, and Masters Swimming!
North Shore “Swim For Life” Programs
Dive into Swim for Life, a comprehensive learn-to-swim journey spanning from Parent & Tot to Leadership levels. Designed for simplicity in both organization and explanation, this 9–level program will help young swimmers develop the 3 main swimming strokes (front and back crawl, breast stroke, sidestroke), actively learning how to be safe in the water, increasing fitness and endurance, and introducing lifesaving techniques!
The program is endorsed by the International Life Saving Federation and the Commonwealth Royal Life Saving Society.
The North Shore swim program, being only three stages in length, serves to cover our entire ten step swim program. With this in mind, once you’ve found out what stage the child is in, clarify how far along the given stage the child is.
Not sure which program aligns best with your child’s needs? Reach out to aquatics@nswc to schedule an evaluation.
Lifesaving Courses
Lifesaving courses offer a range of programs designed to equip individuals with crucial skills in water rescue, first aid, and CPR, tailored for various age groups and expertise levels. The Bronze Star course introduces 8-12 year-olds to the fundamentals of teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making in rescue situations, including a 400m timed swim. The Bronze Medallion level focuses on the principles of water rescue, teaching self-rescue, defense, release methods, and rescue of different types of victims, complemented by CPRA certification.
For those seeking advanced training, the Bronze Cross course offers an in-depth look at safety supervision in aquatic facilities, patient assessments, managing aquatic spinal injuries, and includes CPR-C certification. This advanced level not only enhances rescue and fitness skills but also counts towards high school credits, laying a foundation for further Lifeguarding and Leadership training.
Marlins Swim Club
The Marlins Swim Team develops competitive swimmers of all ages in a fun, social and focused environment.  Training in NSWC’s outdoor pool facility between May and mid-August, athletes focus on stroke development (freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke) and race techniques (dive starts, turns, streamlines and breakouts) toward continual individual improvement, within a strong team context.
Guided by Marlins’ coaches, each swimmer sets personal goals and develops a complimentary training and competition schedule to support success. Depending on goals and commitment, swimmers can attend upwards of 120 swim practices and ten two-day swim meets, plus Regional and Provincial Championships, over the course of our short season. The winter maintenance season begins the first weekend of October.
