HEAD COACH, LEAD GROUP COACH, ASSISTANT COACH SUMMER 2024
The NSWC Marlins Swim Club is currently accepting applications for Head Coach, Lead Group Coach, and Assistant Coach positions for the 2024 summer swim season.
The NSWC Marlins Swim Club is a non-profit, summer swim team that is located at a private club in North Vancouver. We operate our competitive season May through August as part of the BCSSA and have a long history of consistently producing provincial medalists and recordholders.
Our training facility is an outdoor 25-meter, 6 lane pool. The team contains developing and seasoned swimmers that range in age from 5-18 years old. The Marlins are supported by many volunteers that include swimmers, as well as dedicated parents and an executive committee.
We are looking for coaches with a personal passion for the sport of swimming who will combine enthusiasm and respect for the other coaches and swimmers to foster a cohesive team environment.
HEAD COACH Job Description
- The Head Coach is responsible for the overall program and reports direct to the Executive Committee
- Responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a summer swimming program for the Marlins team including setting a season plan for dryland, practices and meets, swimmer attendance, team and swimmer goal setting, supervising internal meets and Hell Week activities,
- Responsible for planning, organizing and execute a summer swimming program for their respective group, including dryland training, practices and
- Supervise and mentor the other coaches including scheduling, goal setting, coach development,
- Confirm, oversee and enter meet entries (including relays) using the Hy-Tek/Active Network
- This position requires pre-planning work in advance of the season, and a commitment to attend all practices and swim meets for the full summer season (start of May to the end of August 2024)
GROUP LEAD COACH Job Description
- Group Lead Coaches lead their groups and take an active role in the development of the overall team program working in conjunction with the Head
- Responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a summer swimming program for their respective group, including dryland training, practices and meets. Lead Coaches typically coach their respective group through 7-9 practice sessions a week through the
- In addition Lead Coaches will often assist with on deck coaching of other swim groups as directed by the Head
- Responsible for setting group goals as well as individual swimmer goal setting with monitoring of progression and feedback to swimmers throughout the summer
- Assist the Head Coach with team season planning and team goal setting including swimmer attendance, internal meets,
- Commitment to attend all practices and any swim meets for the full summer season from the start of May 2023 to the end of August 2023
ASSISTANT COACH Job Description
- Assist the Group Lead Coaches with on deck coaching for all swim practice
- Assist with group planning and individual swimmer goal setting for swimmers and work with the swimmers to ensure they progress towards these
- You will be required to assist with coaching and leading dryland of multiple age group practices
- You will be required to be on deck for a minimum number of practices per week, including both morning and evening practices at the direction of the Head
MARLINS COACH Expectations:
- Foster a fun, competitive environment for swimmers of different abilities and commitment levels
- Be available to attend the NSWC Swim meet, Regionals, Provincials and all other swim meets during the 2024 summer swim season (number of swim meets required will be based on swimmer attendance, and at the discretion of the Head Coach and Marlins Committee).
- Assist with the planning and the execution of the swim club’s “Hell Week” and attend the activities
scheduled during that week.
- Assist with planning and attend all Marlins internal meets, social and fundraising events, banquets, etc
- Lead by example in promoting the Marlins culture of competition, commitment to attendance at practices and meets, hard work and
- Strong leadership skills combined with excellent communication and interpersonal You will be able to openly communicate with the executive committee, other coaching staff and respond to concerns or questions from parents/swimmers.
- Design and execute the building of a strong team community within the swim club, while working in conjunction with the executive
- Along with all the coaches, maintain a clean and organized pool deck and coach’s room, including
coaching equipment.
- You will be a leading example through your words, behaviour and actions of what it means to be a Marlins
- You will work to positively instill within all swimmers the Marlins’ culture: Hard work, commitment, fun,
and support for team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working as a swim coach in a competitive environment and experience as a competitive
- Attainment of Level 1 NCCP coaching certification (or are working towards it) and NLS certification
- A current criminal record check must be provided prior to commencing
